LaserMark 950SSM and 960SSM
LightMachinery's' LaserMark 950 and 960 series lasers provide a fast, reliable means of applying high quality permanent marks such as date and batch codes to consumer product packages and electronic components. These pulsed CO2 lasers complete the entire marking process in less than 1 micro-second so marking can be done "on the fly" without mark smearing or degradation that can occur in other types of laser marking.
LaserMark lasers can mark on a wide variety of materials including inked paper and cards, foils, painted or anodized metal, glass and many types of plastic. The LaserMark series provides ease of operation, extreme reliability and high uptime, in production environments. Solid state SSM high voltage modulators and ultra-low gas flow ensure minimal consumable and maintenance costs. The LaserMark 960SSM series is sealed to NEMA 12 standards for general purpose applications. For more demanding operation the 950SSM series is NEMA 4 rated for direct high pressure hose down.
Inside the CO2 laser, a power supply charges a capacitor. A switch discharges the cap across electrodes, exciting the nitrogen and carbon dioxide gas. Gelatin capsules turn almost white when marked with the LaserMark laser. The large marks are made with very consistent quality at speeds up to 30 per second. Epoxy coated capacitors develop high contrast marks when marked with the LaserMark laser. Billions of transistors are marked every year using the LaserMark laser. The foil on this nail polish bottle cap has been removed to reveal the base plastic. The LaserMark laser provides very sharp clear lettering required for this type of cosmetics application Capacitors dipped in Hysol gold epoxy mark very easily with the LaserMark laser.

Plastic additives can dramatically alter the laser marking characteristics of plastic materials. Normally polyethylene cannot be marked with a LaserMark laser. This photo shows the appearance of polyethylene with the additive Afflair 120 after marking with a CO2 LaserMark system. This polyethylene sample uses Aflair 219 and produces a light mark on a dark background Red polystyrene is doped with Afflair 504 to produce a high contrast light mark on a dark background Laser marks inside bottle caps can produce vivid high contrast "sorry try again" messages at very high speed. "you just won 1,000,000" is also possible. CO2 laser produce a characteristic dark yellow mark on all PVC products, regardless of the base material color.
